Full Moon Drum Circle will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 in the ArtsPark, 1 Young Circle
Jeff Lee didn't care much for drum circles..
But nearly two years ago, the owner of Resurrection Drums in Hollywood was approached by the city's Community Redevelopment Agency to form a community drum circle in the ArtsPark.
Thus was born the free monthly Full Moon Drum Circle, which has steadily grown in popularity and has been life-changing for Lee.
"It's been absolutely amazing for me," Lee said. "I fell into it because of doing other events with Hollywood. But it's literally changed my life as an artist."

Lee and fellow musicians Evan Kline and Adrian Jones, who work at Resurrection Drums and the Hollywood Academy of Arts and Science, respectively, lead the group, which has attracted as many as 300 people.
"People don't really know what drum circles are," Lee said. "But if they come, they'll come back. If you just happen to be wandering around the park, you can just come join in and clap."
Guests are invited to bring their own hand drums, but smaller instruments like shakers or cow bells also are welcome.
There's also something to learn at the event.
"Unlike other drum circles, we like to have structure," Lee said. "We want to teach people. We like to feature rhythms from all over the world and teach people that."
He added that it's also a great stress reliever and provides an opportunity for families, friends and neighbors to unplug and make connections.
"I'm getting you back to the basics," Lee said. "Drumming is a very enlightening experience, [and this] is building community. People get a chance to interact."
The next Full Moon Drum Circle will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 in the ArtsPark, 1 Young Circle.
