Music & Percussion Experience for Seniors of All Ages Wednesday, August 1 If you enjoy listening to music or if you can play an instrument, the Fred Lippman Multi-Purpose Center is where you’ll want to be. Musicians practice show tunes and perform for attendees from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each Wednesday and Friday. All musical skill levels are welcome to participate. The group is also seeking dancers, singers, guitarist, keyboardist, horns & other wind instruments. Some instruments are provided for sharing, however musicians are asked to bring their own instrument.
New Hollywood Screenwriters Seminar Wednesday, August 1 Learn to write lessons, readings, movie analysis, script feedback and networking at the “New Hollywood Screenwriters” seminar at the Broward County Library – Hollywood Branch, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard. Dive-In Summer Film Series – “Lord of the Wetlands” Wednesday, August 1 All are invited to free environmental film screenings at Nova Southeastern University's Halmos College of Natural Sciences & Oceanography in Hollywood at the north end of Dr. Von Mizell/Eula Johnson State Park.
On Wednesday, August 1st, beginning at 6:00 p.m., at the Guy Harvey Oceanographic Center, 8000 North Ocean Drive, the screening of the Changing Seas episode "Lords of the Wetlands" will take place, followed by a Q&A with experts featured in the episode and reception sponsored by 15th Street Fisheries and Lauderdale Marina with refreshments donated by Saltwater Brewery at 7:00 p.m. The Dive-In Summer Film Series continues on Wednesday, August 8th with "Cryptic Critters." All are welcome to attend.
Funtastic Friday Friday, August 3 Summer vacation is coming to an end, take the time now to enjoy Funtastic Friday. This weekly event at the ArtsPark at Young Circle in Downtown Hollywood features a rocking DJ spinning the tunes while kids kick-off their shoes and bounce the night away in inflatable bounce houses and take part in guided activities including games and arts and crafts projects. Funtastic Friday is free and runs from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the ArtPark at Young Circle, located at US-1 and Hollywood Boulevard, weather permitting.
ArtsPark Movie Night featuring “Epic” (G) Friday, August 3 The ArtsPark Friday Night Movie is featuring the animated movie “Epic.” A teenager finds herself transported to a deep forest where a battle between the forces of good and evil is taking place. She bands together with a rag-tag group of characters in order to save their world. Epic stars the voices of Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson and Beyonce, is rated G and show time is at 8:00 p.m. The ArtsPark at Young Circle Amphitheater is located at 1 Young Circle in Downtown Hollywood.
Back To School Event: "Progress in the Park" The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, in partnership with Tamara James and the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, present "Progress in the Park” on Saturday, August 4th from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 2400 Charleston Street in Hollywood.
The annual Progress in the Park event prepares families for back to school while providing important information on available resources. Event highlights include a backpack and school supply giveaway, health fair, basketball clinic for elementary & middle school boys and girls, live entertainment, bounce houses, free food, activities and more.
Dream Car Classic Sunday, August 5 On Sunday, August 5th, the monthly Downtown Hollywood Dream Car Classic takes place along Hollywood Boulevard between 19th and 20th Avenues from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Dream Car Classic features dozens of classic cars, trucks and other one-of-a-kind vehicles on display. Attendance is free. There is a $20.00 charge for those who wish to have their vehicles on display.
To pre-register for the Dream Car Classic, email Joe Bevelacqua at jbevsr@msn.com and include your vehicle’s make and model. Vehicles also will be registered the morning of the show as space permits. Participation is limited to 85 vehicles with awards for the Top 30 vehicles and the People’s Choice Award.
National Night Out 2018 Tuesday, August 7 National Night Out (NNO) is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie in an effort to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
Several Hollywood Neighborhood and Civic Associations are set to host National Night Out events between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7th to send a message that crime isn’t welcome. Residents are invited to enjoy food and refreshments while they get to know their neighbors better and meet with Mobile Patrol and Neighborhood Watch Volunteers. Hollywood Police Officers, Command Staff members, City Officials, and Crime Prevention Specialists are planning to make stops at neighborhood gatherings throughout the City.

Hollywood Beach Sweep Clean-Up Saturday, August 11 Help keep Hollywood Beach beautiful by volunteering for the Hollywood Beach Sweep Clean-Up on Saturday, August 11th from 7:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Charnow Park, 300 Connecticut Street and the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. Volunteers meet to collect litter and cigarette butts from the sandy beach. Volunteers are asked complete the registration form found on the City’s website under Beach Sweep. Children, ages 8 and older, are welcome to participate when accompanied by an adult. Gloves and garbage bags are provided to all volunteers along with safety instructions. Remember to dress appropriately, wear sunscreen and bring a completed registration form with you.
Solar Blast Summer Concert Saturday, August 11 Visitors to the ArtsPark at Young Circle in Downtown Hollywood may have noticed the solar trees recently installed by Florida Power and Light. The trees are, in part, powering the amphitheater stage equipment, as well as other ArtsPark fixtures. In celebration of this green partnership, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts is hosting a series of “Solar Blast Summer Fun Concerts” featuring local, live tribute bands.
On Saturday, August 11th come out to enjoy “Jaded,” an Aerosmith tribute band, set to perform at 8:00 p.m. Solar Blast Summer Concerts are free and lawn seating is available. Below is the schedule of upcoming bands.

Hollywood Historical Society Founder’s Day Sunday, August 12 The Hollywood Historical Society invites you to join the celebration of Founder's Day on Sunday, August 12th at the historic Hollywood Women's Club clubhouse, located at 501 N. 14th Avenue in Hollywood from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All are invited to wear their favorite special hat. Mayor Josh Levy is scheduled as a special guest. Free for members, $5.00 fee for non-Historical Society members.
Cool Down at the Hollywood Community Pool Open Swim Daily Cool down on a hot summer day at the Driftwood Community Pool, located at 3000 N. 69th Avenue in west Hollywood. The pool is open to swimmers Monday through Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $2.00 for kids ages 4 to 18 years old and $4.00 for adults ages 19 and older. Kids ages 3 and under swim for free. Lifeguards are on duty at the pool and ample free parking is available. .

Broward County Library Hollywood Youth Programs Wondering what to do with the kids this summer? Bring them to the Broward County Library, Hollywood Branch, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard to participate in a variety of summer programs and activities such as Zumba and Yoga, story-time, playgroups and reading buddies.
